The Long House, Elmley Castle
The Long House is a listed grade 2 building and comprises a brick built barn which was converted into residential use in the early 1970’s and a range of single storey brick and timber framed out buildings originally byres within its cartilage.
The repair and stabilisation of the former Byres include the removal of insensitive previous repairs in preparation for subsequent conversion and adaption works.
The works included:
- Repair of timber framing to the North and East elevation including dismantling and reconstruction of recently inserted timber framing
- Repair and re-instatement of brick infill panels
- Removal of 20th century brickwork piers and re-instatement of new support to principal trusses.
- Partial stripping, repair of roof structure and recovering.
- Insertion of new insulated concrete floor
- Partial underpinning to the West, South and internal walls
- New foul storm drainage connections
- Installation of new windows and doors
